룩셈부르크, Mistral AI와 전략적 파트너십 체결
2025년 6월 17일, 룩셈부르크 정부는 주권 데이터 경제에서 세계적인 선두주자로 자리매김하려는 노력의 일환으로 프랑스의 Mistral AI와 파트너십을 체결했다. 이 파트너십은 룩셈부르크에서 기술 혁신을 강화하고 인공지능의 개발과 도입을 촉진하는 것을 목표로 한다.
On 17 June 2025, the Luxembourg government signed a partnership with Mistral AI as part of its commitment to positioning itself as a world leader in the sovereign data economy. “To remain a modern country and to be a leader in certain areas, you need to embrace AI – and AI has to go together with a sovereign data economy,” said Prime Minister Luc Frieden, speaking about the partnership at the Nexus Luxembourg tech event.
Cross-sector perspective
The partnership will support the implementation of artificial intelligence across multiple sectors. “AI will impact all aspects of life,” Prime Minister Frieden emphasised. “There are numerous areas where AI can help us shape the world differently, including priority fields such as health, space and finance.”

Besides economic development, the partnership also aims to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption within the public sector and foster collaboration with public research institutions. The research areas are wide-ranging, with the ultimate goal of achieving a tangible societal impact. Particular emphasis is being placed on trusted and explainable AI for compliance purposes.
A contract signed between the Minister for Defence and Mistral AI, as part of the strategic partnership, will enable close cooperation between Mistral AI and the Luxembourg Armed Forces to further integrate advanced AI tools into military activities.
Strengthening data sovereignty
At the heart of the partnership is a focus on strengthening Luxembourg’s data sovereignty. All solutions provided will be hosted onsite to ensure that sensitive data remains under the sole control of the State and complies with national requirements in terms of confidentiality and data protection.

Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, also highlighted the importance of sovereignty in AI during his remarks at Nexus Luxembourg. “We are talking about a technology that will drive multiple digits of GDP and influence many strategic areas, including defence. When deploying such technology – particularly in critical infrastructure – you must ensure that you hold the keys to turn it on and off.”

As a result of the strategic partnership, Mistral AI will establish a presence in Luxembourg and contribute to the creation of highly skilled jobs. “We are proud of this partnership, which places AI at the service of the demanding protection of state data, while deploying our technology to public authorities,” Mr Mensch said.
