룩셈부르크 경제부, 스웨덴 곰스페이스 그룹과 MOU 체결
룩셈부르크 경제부(Ministry of Luxemborug)와 스웨덴 고성능 나노 위성 제조 업체 곰스페이스(GomSpace Group AB)가 데이터 처리 및 전달에 관한 양해각서(Memorandum of Understanding)를 체결했다.
2007년 설립된 곰스페이스는 세계적으로 손꼽히는 고성능 나노 위성 제조 업체이다. 본사는 덴마크(Denmark)에 위치해있고, 스웨덴, 미국, 싱가폴에 지사가 있으며 150명 이상의 직원이 현재 소속 되어있다. 곰스페이스는 위성 관측 관련 R&D(연구 및 개발)와 관련된 전세계 고객 기반의 서비스를 구축하기 위해 룩셈부르크에 연구소를 조성한다.
업무 체결에 따라 룩셈부르크 경제부는 룩셈부르크 우주 프로그램(LuxIMPULSE)과 기타 연구 개발 보조금으로 곰스페이스 연구 및 개발을 지원할 예정이다. 곰스페이스 룩셈부르크 지사는 2021년까지 최대 50명의 직원을 고용할 계획을 가지고 있다.
룩셈부르크 정부는 수년 간 우주 산업 부분의 발전을 위해 우주 자원 개발 이니셔티브인 스페이스리소스(SpaceResources.lu)을 운영하고 있다.
Founded in 2007 and listed under the ticker GOMX on the Nasdaq First North Premier exchange in Stockholm, GomSpace is a globally leading designer, integrator and manufacturer of high-end nanosatellites. The company employs more than 150 people with a headquarter in Denmark and subsidiaries in Sweden, US and Singapore. GomSpace plans to create a Luxembourg based business unit for operations of satellite constellations as well as data processing and distribution offered as a service to an international customer base, including a support center dedicated to regulatory affairs and an R&D organisation.
50 full time employees in Luxembourg
Within the framework of this MoU, the Ministry of the Economy will provide funding through the Luxembourg space program (LuxIMPULSE) and other types of R&D grants to the forthcoming subsidiary of GomSpace for research and development activities taking place in Luxembourg. By 2021, the company intends to employ up to 50 full time employees in the Grand Duchy.
Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, stated: “The implementation of GomSpace in Luxembourg will be widening the capabilities of the local expertise ecosystem, in particular in the nanosatellite segment. By choosing the Grand Duchy for their international expansion, GomSpace acknowledges the substantial efforts of the government over the last years to put in place the necessary measures to support the continued strengthening and diversification of its space sector, including but not limited to the SpaceResources.lu initiative.”
Niels Buus, CEO of GomSpace Group added: “With this initiative we will widen our participation in the value chain targeting full turn-key based solutions based on our nanosatellite technology. In Luxembourg we can find the human capital with experience in satellite operations and we expect that the ecosystem being built up by the Luxembourg Government will provide a strong foundation for scaling our business and partnering with other local key players.”
