The managers of the European open data portal, operated by the European Commission, have just published the results of their 2017 analysis on the progress of European Union countries in the area of open data.

Luxembourg obtained an excellent result

The Grand-Duchy’s score put it in 6th place, allowing it to be among the European trendsetters in this area from now on. Many factors were taken into account in this assessment, in particular the existence of coordination at national level, the application of the principle of awarding licences, the many different themes of the data sets published as well as their quality, the transposition of the related European directives and the implementation of a national strategy.

Experts highlighted Luxembourg’s national portal www.data.public.lu as one of the strong points. Despite the fact that it only went online recently – it was only launched in 2016 –, it has already managed to establish itself as a central general open data platform for the Grand Duchy.

This classification is a success for all the partners making an active contribution to this project in the framework of the Digital Lëtzebuerg programme, in other words the Information and Press Service of the Luxembourg Government, the Government IT Centre, the national geoportal team at the Land Registry and Topography Administration and the Communications and Media Service.
